why i haven't posted... besides the fact that i post as often as a cow jumps over the moon

i have been playing Final Fantasy IX (that's Roman numeral 'nine' for those scoring at home). i am quite enthralled with it, except when i encounter something that hands my ass to me more than three times in a row (like that stupid tree that continues to cast Level 5 Death).

within the game, i have already encountered Maggie (she's a coquettish barkeep), Hal (he's a snoring innkeeper), Noah (he's a cowardly soldier) and Erin (she's some fancy, schmancy fairy chick that dies in a big tree explosion). the rest of you have yet to show up.

i'm done with two (of the four) disks. that only took me twenty hours. if you think that's a lot, i'll have you know that Final Fantasy VII (that's Roman numeral 'seven' for those keeping score), a three-disc game, took me seventy hours to beat. so i'm way ahead of myself on this installment. although, the first disk took eight hours, and the second disk took twelve. if this exponential growth continues, i'm gonna be in trouble very soon.

online comic... part the fourth

i need a name for my strip.

we'll have a democratic style vote. write-in votes are very welcome, seeing as how i only have two candidates right now.

they are, in no particular order:

Comic Shop Blues
Up All Nate

keep in mind these important tidbits of information for your write-in candidates:

the strip is about dorky friends and co-workers.
it takes place primarily in a comic book shop.
genetic cleansing is not tolerated.
everyone speaks English, albeit at different levels of correctness.
the main character's name is Nate.
no one likes a party pooper.
video games are fun.
fundementalists are not.

there you go. now go create names, my little creators.

prefereably in the comments field of this post.

things people say...

things Frank Miller said that made me laugh: (while explaining the ending of the much ballyhooed Dark Knight Strikes Again to a fan) "Batman's only had one good Robin. And then she turned into Catgirl."

things Chris Claremont said that pissed me off: (after being asked which of the X-men he'd resurrect if he could) "Psylocke, Jean Grey, and [every other dead X-man]. They really didn't need to die." he killed them both, Psylocke just recently and of his own frickin' volition!

things Alan Moore has said that confused the hell out of me: (during the first issue of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Volume II): the entire frickin' issue! it was in MARTIAN! who the hell understands Martian besides Alan frickin' Moore!

online comics part the third

i've decided that i'll be doing my own art on my online comic. i thought you'd like to know just in case any of you were training for the physical portions of my three-pronged art test.

home away from home

so, apparently, i've been missing my home away from home very much. as much as that stupid little town that i'm from sucks, and it does, in fact, suck, i find myself drawn to the state of California more and more as days pass by. not to live in or anything, i just miss LA and Frisco and driving empty roads in cars with a bunch of friends listening to crappy pop songs, but not caring 'cause someone in the in the car somewhat, sorta likes it.

and i miss malls. God how i miss malls.

i miss having to hunt for my comics.... sorta. i love working in a comic book shop and being able to get everything when it comes out, but i miss that rush... the thrill of the hunt, if you will, and the utter exhiliration of finding that rat bastard X-men comic you missed last week across state lines in a seedy motel in Vegas.

i miss driving down the 101 freeway.... or riding in the passenger seat while someone else drove. the road trips taken to far (or near) places that we didn't really need to go to, but went anyway.

but, i think i miss my childhood most of all. i think i left that somewhere between San Francisco and Porterville (that crappy ass town i was talking about earlier). and for some dumbass reason, i didn't stop to pick it up when i dropped it.

i think i was in a hurry to grow up.

online comics... part the second

i want to start my own online comic. but i can't draw fer nuthin'. and so, i am holding an open audition to see who will be my artist. there will three tests. there will be the physical test in which you'll all jump through hoops of fire, run through LA traffic, and wrestle attack dogs. the survivors will go through the second test, which will also be physical. the survivors will fight amongst thmeselves using all kinds of fighting techniques and a grand array of weapons. the last man (or woman) standing will then take the third test. that will be to submit to me a piece of art. if i like it, congratulations, you're my new artist. if i don't, you've gone through all that pain and suffering for nothing.

or maybe i'll just stick with the third test.

and so you know what to draw about, my comic'll be about a group of geeky friends. usually it'll just be everyday people in everyday activities that happen to be humorous. sometimes, though, my inherent geekiness will take over, and i'll ask you to draw a space battle, or a samurai in full armor, or an ass-kicking elf (ahh.... Legolas....).

so ramblers.... let's get rambling.

the wonders of online strips

so, on recommendations from Dan and Noah, i've started reading online strips. specifically 'Penny Arcade' and 'PVP.' they are funny ass things that you should all be reading. wait, let me rephrase that. if you are really into video games of all sorts (like me), then you should read the adventures of Gabe and Tycho on 'Penny Arcade.' if you are really into computer games and rpgs (online, offline, and pen and paper)(again, like me), then read up on Cole, Brent, Jade, Skull, Francis, Robbie, and Jase in 'PVP.' links to each site are on the left in my 'places to go' area. enjoy!

p.s. i've found that sometimes, even for an experienced gamer like myself, 'Penny Arcade's jokes are over my head. you have to be like totally immersed in the world of gaming to get those jokes. but most of them do not require such immersion and are funny as hell. 'PVP' on the other hand is quite easy to understand, even if you only have a minimum of computer game knowledge. they are also funny as hell.
